About the artist

Tamara de Lempicka was a Polish-born Art Deco painter known for her glamorous and sensual portraits of the wealthy elite. She came from an influential family and studied art in Italy and France before settling in Paris in the 1920s. Her paintings feature sharp angles, bold colours and a focus on the human form, reflecting the elegant and modern aesthetic of the Art Deco movement. Her works often depict strong, confident women and were considered controversial at the time because they openly displayed female sexuality. Throughout her career, Lempicka became known for her lavish lifestyle and relationships with influential figures such as artists, writers and politicians. In the post-war period, however, her fame declined and she spent much of her later life in relative obscurity. Today, her works remain popular and are considered icons of Art Deco.
