About the artist
Terry Haggerty studied at the Cheltenham School of Art in Gloucestershire. The British artist is most famous for his abstract and sometimes large-scale paintings. With his very strict and formal compositions Haggerty creates the illusion of three-dimensionality within his geometrical forms which are made up of lines and stripes.
The monochrome colours and the exact execution of the computer-designed compositions evoke the impression of mechanical fabrication. With this effect, the artist’s influence deliberately fades into the background. The traces of the painting process – the colour is applied by hand in multiple layers and with the help of stencils – are hidden under several layers of varnish. Haggerty’s oeuvre connects the serial sequence principle of Minimal Art with the visual expression of Op Art.
