About the artist
Louisiana-born Scott Campbell is known throughout the world as being one of the most talented hands in the world of tattooing. He also established himself as an acclaimed visual artist. After abandoning a career as a biochemist at the University of Texas, he moved to San Francisco and began tattooing in one of the oldest shops in California, the ‘Picture Machine’. He now owns and operates the legendary ‘Saved Tattoo’ in Brooklyn, New York whose client list includes a long roster of celebrities.
In recent years, he has gained much acclaim from fine art communities worldwide for his work in mediums other than skin. Alongside sculptures, paintings and graphite pencil drawings he is most famous for his intricately carved objects made out of uncirculated US currency. Against the background of the reoccurring financial crises these works are particularly capable of evoking controversial emotions and meanings.
