The sculpture “Untitled” by Daniel Spoerri is an assemblage of many individual “found objects”, so-called “objets trouv\u00e9s”, assembled in such a way as to create a completely new context. It is based on a three-legged wooden stool with an oversized corkscrew with a funnel mill and a rotating crank. Two twisted metal rods protrude from a wooden head bearing the artist’s signature, over whose forehead an animal fur is drawn. The whole object looks like an animal. The skull as a vanitas symbol is a recurring motif in Spoerri’s works.<\/p>\n
The Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri, born in Romania in 1930, originally comes from the field of classical dance and pantomime. At the city theatre in Berne he staged plays with artistic contemporaries such as Pablo Picasso, Eug\u00e8ne Ionesco and Jean Tardieu.
\nHe was a co-founder of the artist group “Le Nouveau R\u00e9alisme”, which was founded in Paris in 1960 and also included Jean Tinguely, Arman and Yves Klein.
\nIn 1986, Spoerri opened his “Restaurant der Sieben Sinne” in the old city of D\u00fcsseldorf, where he carried out legendary “Eat Art” actions with Joseph Beuys, Dieter Roth and other artists.
